QUEST: 1,000 Woodcuts Update
May 2003 - 188 completed
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Unbelievable that I have been ignoring my faithful friends since last December?? Wow, at least I can't be accused of flooding your email boxes with excess messages.
The big event of the year is that I
will be shown solo at the Valley of Fire State Park Visitor's Center through
the
month
of
July 2003. Yes, it will be hot, but that will give everyone more time
to enjoy
the cool air conditioning inside the Visitor's Center while enjoying new and
exciting woodcuts. I am planning to demo every Sunday and will have a
good variety of new works, all with a regional flavor. I have immersed
myself into making landscapes for just this exhibit.
Here is a nip of the remainder of the year's schedule;
be sure to check for updates as I have been known to change the schedule: http://www.1000woodcuts.com/exhibits/exhibit.html

New Stuff:
Mostly due to my new venture in the Valley of Fire, get ready to see some new landscapes this year! Probably the easiest way to see all the latest works is to go to the 1,000 Woodcuts progress page and click on the tiny thumbnails. An enlargement will pop up and you can browse all the latest from one place. There are Journeys and Magic Windows and Spirit Winds...Enjoy!

Oh, wow! I almost forgot the exciting event of the year, one of the crazy ventures that I started with a poet friend has finally come to fruition. The book Entering Spirit is now a reality!!! This is a poetry book illustrated with some of my artworks, a very nice collection. I don't have a web page explaining it all yet, but will soon. If you want more info about the book, just write me. The poet's name is Michele Salzano, she's powerful.
What else? Oh yeah, I'm making rock prints now with a good buddy, Phil Thum, that carves sandstone. I met him in art festivals, of course. He replicates archaic stone art respecting the native American designs of old. I take his stones and slop them with pigment and make prints from them. Very exciting stuff. Check it out:

Thoughts and Ramblings
This year inexplicably I desisted entering competitions, I don't know
if I meant to or not, but the fact is I'm lacking for entries. One reason is
that Art Festivals take so much of my time now and I'm thoroughly enjoying this
gipsy life. For those of you who think this would be a lot of fun, don't miss
the flash flood story in the diary.
Last Diary entry, some interesting collaborations and other exciting things
(like a FLASH FLOOD!!!):

Right now I'm looking forward to a mad dash into the studio and hiding from
everyone until I print all the blocks I carved during the busy art festival
season. I have awesome lakes, great walks, beautiful trees, spider webs, shamans
and rain-makers...all kind of good stuff just waiting to get on paper!

Quote(s) of the Day
One of the things that I laugh about the most is people telling me that I have
talent, here's an appropriate response:
"Everyone has a talent. What is rare is hte courage to follow the talents
to the dark places where it leads." Erica Jong
"Make voyages...attempt them. There is nothing else." Tennessee Williams
Thanks for listening and a great summer to all!
