Maria Arango's
QUEST: 1,000 Woodcuts
Fall 2007 Update - 248
completed (still, sigh)
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Hello dear friends!
News! News! News! I am
taking next year off the festival madness. Frankly, I'm tired of the constant
roller-coaster and I need some serious time in the studio to refresh my imagery
and energy. I have so many drawn and uncarved blocks in the studio, so many
more projects in my head...I just have to take a long hermit-break and advance
my artistic projects.
No fear though, I will
keep a couple of the easiest festivals closest to home and just pare down
to a minimum public schedule. And I will be back rip-roaring and full of
energy in 2009. I am always readily available through the web and less matting
and framing and traveling will mean more time to update everyone on new images
and exciting projects and adventures.

I also signed with a gallery
in Springdale, Utah, at the gateway to beautiful Zion National Park. Some
of you may recall I had some works in a gallery there at a prior time.
Well, I'm back there (really, just an excuse to drive up there every so often!).
Check it out: http://www.deziongallery.com, just starting out but a beautful
promising place, you'll just have to drive there to see all the works.
2008 also will mark my return to the Valley of Fire Visitor's Center. I will
be showing a large variety of Southwestern flavor works there through the entire
month of February, which just happens to be the absolute best month to visit
the park! If you have not seen the Valley of Fire, plan on visiting next year;
the views are absolutely gorgeous and the park is friendly and conducive to
solitude and pure quiet enjoyment.
Other projects? Hmmm...I feel a book coming, maybe a couple, sort of a retrospective
with my works and some poems by my mother. Should be fun to put together. I
also have in mind perhaps an open studio to make up for my hermitage, but all
in good time.

Thoughts and Ramblings
I guess I feel too busy right now to think and ramble, but I
have become happily focused on finishing my schedule this fall and very much
looking forward to my first big break since I started being an artist full
time. Seems that even the thought of a rest is giving me the energy to continue
and get through these very busy upcoming months.
I had become a bit set in a routine and this summer I had a chance
to enjoy a small rest between May and August. I guess I liked it! I had a chance
to catch up on projects both at home and in art. As it happens, when I start
doing, it becomes obvious how much more I have to do. When I learn something,
it is apparent that I have so much more to learn.
I almost envy people
who wake up late on weekends and wonder what they will do that day. I have
a list, always have a list of home projects, and every finished project makes
my home better and me a bit more satisfied and accomplished. In art, there
are more images to be carved, processes to try, bigger works, smaller works,
colorful puzzle works. The wood awaits patiently. Working it is happiness.

Schedule for the rest of the year 2007
is set in stone:

The Quotes of The Day:
"Love many
things,
for therein lies the true
strength,
and whosoever loves much performs much,
and can accomplish much,
and what is done in love is done well."
