Image: From the "road" series. I think we take bridges
for granted; here we are crossing a wild and muddy river known as the "Dirty
Devil" with as much ease as we drive on a parking lot. Take the bridge away
and we would be left, like the settlers who named this branch of the Colorado,
scratching our heads at the edge of a forbidding cliff, wondering how we will
ever get the mules across. Two worlds, the banks of a river, completely disconnected
but for the feat of engineering we simply call: a bridge.
