Newel
Woodcut

Block: Cherry
Ink: Burnt Umber
Paper: Hand-made Oatmeal
Process: Straight forward woodcut. I work of the model books and enjoy
the pages full of the same pose but viewed from different angles.
Image: Inspired by a silly e-mail called "a word
a day." The word "newel," meaning either the post at the bottom of a stairway
or the center support for a spiral staircase, somehow struck this image.
I enjoyed the feeling of solid vertical and fragile horizontals.
