Block: Cherry
Ink: Mixes of red/black, purple/blue,
plus the three process colors to make the rainbow
Paper: Beech Grove Paperworks Old Masters Blue (Moonlight)
Process: This is a "puzzle" piece, in which the block was sawn in 2 pieces
prior to printing. In the first state (Rainmaker I), I only printed the image
in black ink. The full color version has two "fountain" rolls, in
which two colors of ink are placed side by side on the slab and allowed to mix
as the ink is rolled. The rainbow was a triple fountain roll, with the 3 process
colors (red, yellow, blue).
The image is from an ongoing series about people in the desert, mythical and
real...or surreal? In any case, there is much to do in the desert, usually gathering
(or making) food and water and seeking shelter. Incidentally, this fellow was
particularly successful this year (2005) because the Southwest has broken every
record in the books as far as rainfall.
The block is sold!
