Block: Maple
Ink: Oil based, 5 colors,
mixes
Paper: Magnani Pescia Blue
Process: Reduction. I tried a couple of new techniques, one was
to print "softly" with the first layers being the softest and gradually
achieving more precision. The last state was the only one printed with
a press. The other technique was to really over-ink in order to achieve
a degree of relief and "chunking" of the ink in places. The effect is truly
sculptural and rough, like the sandstone formations themselves.
Image: Despite the hot summers that prevail
in Las Vegas, there is a magic that summer brings that fills me with energy.
Is it the sunshine? The heat? The way streets and hiking trails empty of
life, except those of us who choose to be out here? I find myself welcoming
summer--every summer.
